The Department of Chemistry is pleased to announce four of our faculty members have received promotions in this academic year. The promotions, approved by the UNC Board of Trustees, are effective July 01, 2020.
The College of Arts and Sciences appoints Wei You as the new Department Chair of Chemistry. You will begin his appointment on July 01, 2020. You will succeed Jeff Johnson, who served as Department Chair from 2016-2020.
The Department of Chemistry is pleased to announce Laura Yurco has been named 2020 Manager of the Year.
From the Johnson Group, Ph.D. candidate, Pedro DeJesúsCruz is the recipient of the Ruth L. Kirschstein Predoctoral Fellowship from NIH.
11 UNC Chemistry students have earned graduate research fellowships from the NSF. The fellowship program recognizes and supports outstanding graduate students in NSF-supported science, technology, engineering, and mathematics disciplines.
Working across disciplines, UNC-Chapel Hill environmental engineer Orlando Coronell and chemist Frank Leibfarth have developed a filtration resin that has thus far been successful in removing most PFAS from water.
The American Chemical Society awards undergraduates, majoring in chemistry, for their achievements as well as to encourage further study in the field. Four UNC Chemistry students are recipients of the 2020 American Chemical Society Undergraduate Awards:
Two University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill students are recipients of the prestigious Barry Goldwater Scholarship. The Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Foundation was established by Congress in 1986 to serve as a living memorial to honor the lifetime work of Senator Barry Goldwater.
