Translational Research

Translational research made possible by technology developed in our department, has been highlighted in a recent article in Nature Medicine. Research from the laboratory of Kevin Weeks is making it possible to discover novel structures in therapeutically relevant RNA molecules, opening up new opportunities for creating RNA-targeted drugs.

These same UNC-created technologies, called mutational profiling or MaP, also allow rapid identification of small molecules, potential drugs, that bind these RNAs. RNA-targeted drug discovery is in an early phase but holds enormous promise to create new avenues to treat human disease.
