Undergraduate Teaching Assistant
When available, the Chemistry Department offers opportunities for motivated undergraduate students to serve as Teaching Assistants (TAs) in our General Chemistry lab courses (CHEM 101L and 102L).
Undergraduate TA openings will vary from semester to semester, but we always encourage applying! These positions provide valuable leadership and teaching experience, a deeper understanding of chemistry, and a paid stipend for approximately 10 hours of work per week.
Undergraduate TA positions are considered 10-hour weekly assignment and include a stipend. Typical responsibilities include:
- 3 hours teaching in lab
- 1 hour preparing for the experiment and pre-lab lecture
- 1 hour for attending the weekly TA meeting
- 1 hour hosting office hours for student questions
- 4 hours grading lab reports, notebooks, quizzes, and related assignments
Most undergraduate TAs are assigned to General Chemistry lab courses (CHEM101L or 102L). All TAs must complete required safety and TA training prior to the start of the semester or summer session.
Successful applicants are expected to demonstrate strong performance in chemistry coursework and lab skills. Preference is given to students have have completed labs through CHEM 262L.
