Current Research Focus
My research focus is on developing new methods for arene functionalizations via organic photoredox catalysis.
My name is Nicholas Tay and I'm a fifth year in the Nicewicz lab. I love chemistry because it's one of the few disciplines that allows humans to apply discoveries in the lab towards solving pressing problems in society. When I'm not in lab, I can usually be found at the local pub watching soccer, hanging out with friends, and trying out a new dessert recipe in my kitchen.
Why did you choose UNC Chemistry?
I chose UNC because the department is dedicated towards doing exciting research and has had a strong record in hiring young faculty talent.
What are your future plans?
In the near future, I hope to do a post-doc with a focus on transition-metal catalysis . In the long-term, I plan to enter academia.
