Current Research Focus
I focus on synthesizing and characterizing sulfonated polyamide membranes for water purification.
I grew up in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains in Knoxville and attended undergrad at the University of Tennessee. I first began research as a computational chemist but quickly realized my interests lie in membrane fabrication and characterization. When not in lab, I enjoy hiking, trail running, and biking.
Why did you choose UNC Chemistry?
The professors and students here reached out to me after my visitation weekend to ask how the decision process was going. I feel like this program cares about its graduate students while maintaining a high caliber of research. Also, my family has long supported UNC basketball so I've had my Tar Heel gear ready to go since I was eight.
What are your future plans?
I hope to be a professor at a small college in the Appalachia area. In addition to teaching and mentoring students, I want to advance scientific opportunities for students who come from a poor educational background.
