Kathleen Riley awarded Colonial Metal George Benvengo Memorial Student Award

Carolina Chemistry’s Kathleen Riley is the recipient of the 2021 Colonial Metal George Benvengo Memorial Student Award. Kathleen’s graduate research in the Gagné Group focuses on generating novel Pt – I complexes designed to invert the bond polarization of iodide to facilitate the selective functionalization of alkenes. 

Awarded by the International Precious Metals Institute Educational and Scientific Foundation, Inc., the Colonial Metal George Benvengo Memorial Student Award is a $5,000 award recognizing a student’s work in performing fundamental or applied research focusing on any precious metals. The IMPI Foundation is the charitable, scientific and educational affiliate of the IPMI Institute.
