The UNC Department of Chemistry is pleased to share that Professor Shubin Liu, Professor of Practice in the department, has been appointed the next editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Quantum Chemistry (IJQC), a long-standing journal devoted to advancing quantum chemistry. Liu earned his Ph.D. under the late Professor Robert G. Parr at UNC and completed postdoctoral work with Professor Weitao Yang at Duke University. Since 2000 at UNC, he has worked at Research Computing as a senior computational scientist and holds a secondary appointment as a Professor of Practice in the Department of Chemistry.
IJQC has a long connection to Carolina Chemistry since Parr played a key role in its foundation in 1967 with Per-Olov Lowdin as its founding editor. Parr’s leadership in density functional theory helped shape IJQC in the field of quantum chemistry, and Liu’s appointment as the editor-in-chief of IJQC will continue this Carolina legacy in the field.
Professor Liu is internationally recognized for his work in conceptual density functional theory and quantum chemical methods. As editor-in-chief, he will guide the journal’s scientific vision, uphold its rigorous standards, and help shape future directions in quantum chemistry research. Please read more about his work at his website here.
The department congratulates Professor Liu on this well-deserved honor and looks forward to the impact of his leadership on both the journal and the broader scientific community.
